Bio: Alex Tapp

What brought you here to Sanctuary Aus?

I wanted to help people in my job in a meaningful way, and to make genuine connections with people throughout my working life. After many years of working in the Recruitment industry and the broader corporate world, I took the plunge by studying at CIT Cert 3 & 4 Community Services and Community Development in 2019. I joined Sanctuary Aus as a student in March 2020 and happily became a paid staff member in June!

Laughing with my boss is number 1! Having flexibility in hours of work which helps me be a better parent of two young children. I love developing new skills to support families and disabled people in the Canberra community.

What keeps you here at SA?

I adore getting to know what is happening for families that are struggling in different ways, developing a relationship with them, and seeing how I can support them to make positive changes in their lives. I also like working with clients at their homes and schools so I can move about in my day and have plenty of variety!

What do you like about your role?

I worked in the Recruitment industry from 2005 in various roles for three different companies. Previously I worked in PR, Events Management and Administration roles for places such as Macquarie University Union, Pharmacy Guild of Australia, and several computer games distributors.

Your previous work experience

I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at Macquarie University about a hundred years ago … well, I graduated in 1994 so close enough!  I have recently completed studies in Community Welfare.
