What brought you here to Sanctuary Aus?
I was shocked by the financial policies in place in larger organisations. So little of the funding goes to the actual families who need the programs. I wanted to start an organisation where staff were valued and supported to enable them to focus on the children and families in our programs.
The same reason that I had for starting to work with children and families many years ago. I had taken on the care of my nephews who had been badly abused and the impact this had on their developing years was catastrophic. If I can prevent a few children from experiencing this trauma in their lifetime I am a happy woman. I am proud to support a team of therapists who can help this dream grow.
What keeps you here at SA?
I love working with our clients, who we have the privilege of supporting on their journeys in raising their children. I love leading a team of talented and passionate therapists who share my vision. I love that I am surrounded by an amazing Management Board who are so generous and giving of their time and talent in achieving the Sanctuary Aus mission. Lastly, Iām so glad the Board are able to help me in areas that I do not have a talent (managing the finances would probably top this list! I know our Board Treasurer and bookkeeper would second this opinion)
What do you like about your role?
I have over 25 years of experience providing therapeutic support, guidance and assessments for children, young people and families.
I have worked for many years with children with disabilities and with children who have experienced development trauma. I also thank my boys who have taught me how much love they can give back to the world after such a challenging and traumatic early life, and to my daughter who shows how amazing, challenging, perceptive and quirky life with Autism can be.
Your previous work experience
I have a Bachelor of Social Work, post-graduate qualifications in Developmental Trauma and a range of industry-specific training. I am a qualified Circle of Security facilitator and a Cool Kids facilitator ā specialising in delivering this program to children with ASD.
